I wanted to post a blog titled "Is BJP Hellbent On Destroying Itself" soon after Jashwant Singh's expulsion from the BJP, but held it back hoping to post it on a later date with more firepower. The anger has subsided though now, and a sense of humor has taken me over instead. I'd like to look at the recent BJP events from two contrasting notions, viz. the serious and sarcastic ones.

A few questions to take care of the serious one first. Why can't the BJP high command forget Jinnah, Nehru and Partition in the twenty first century? And even if a few of them do not, why can't the usual BJPwallahs (or rather Sangh originated ones) digest it sportingly? Many right-wing nationalists blame Gandhian and Nehruvian ways for India's current plight, so why can't they take negative remarks about Sardar and Bose as well in the same stride?

I've myself been praising Bose and Sardar more often in the recent years, but I find nothing unusual if somebody contradicted about them. What Jashwant Singh has penned down is a piece of academic work. You should either ignore it or agree to disagree with his take on partition after going through his text, not before that. Both his sacking and banning of his book in Gujarat were unnecessary moves. I found myself in disagreement from Modi, as a BJP supporter, after a very long time.

Another related mystery is, why Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha have not been heard seriously by those in top hierarchy? It is not hidden that most BJP sympathizers would like their party to function in a more democratic and transparent manner. So why can't they have CHINTAN BAITHAKs to decide who lost the 2009 battle for the BJP and decide to have a democratic change of guard?

Thinking about the hidden sarcasm now, should BJP be called Bharatiy Jinnah Party now? Congress sympathizers have taken such digs for long now. Is this the right time for the BJP sympathizers to laugh as well? :-)
