Pros:
1. Narhari Amin gets to see the door finally.
2. GCA gets an able administrator to rely on.
3. Cricketing fraternity may even decide to give NAMO the BCCI's presidency.
4. Sports other than cricket can benefit from the money generated by the Gujarat Cricket Association and other such boards in India (in case Namo showed the way).

Cons:
1. One more RAAJNETA to rob Indian sports.
2. Modi could not hope to assign more than the single weekly hour Sharad Pawar is reported to have spent at the BCCI.
3. Sportsmen/ women and fans had no direct say in cricket or other sports in India, and this will continue to be the case with NAMO heading the GCA.
4. Modi's entry can leave the Indian cricket highly politicized, with his detractors also camping inside the BCCI.

Have you ever been to Narendra Modi's blog, closely observed his online material? It seems his cyber team can only visualize him in B&W shades and would not welcome anything that did not fall in the stark white category. No, this B&W thingy was not initially their own creation. In fact, it was invented by the pseudo-secularist and pseudo-intellect outfits and the largely English-speaking media. They were the first one to see NAMO through a single eyepiece, that of complete hatred. But, I'm not sure how can this monotony, when practiced by his own supporters, help Namo's own political journey.

I had posted the following Gujarati comment on Namo's blog which got overlooked. There was nothing heinous in it. The only glitch it seemed to have was its green, red and blue observations about BJP's internal rumblings. This before the day Jashwant Singh was sacked from the party. I've been questioning about Namo's online promoters since then. They only seem to approve highly eulogizing messages in that blog. Unless they invite more generic ideas and comments, it was but hopeless to think they can help Namo's online campaign in a manner Obama's team had succeeded in doing late last year.

Those who can't read the following Gujarati font may wish to go through the jpg link instead.

===================

I wanted to post a blog titled "Is BJP Hellbent On Destroying Itself" soon after Jashwant Singh's expulsion from the BJP, but held it back hoping to post it on a later date with more firepower. The anger has subsided though now, and a sense of humor has taken me over instead. I'd like to look at the recent BJP events from two contrasting notions, viz. the serious and sarcastic ones.

A few questions to take care of the serious one first. Why can't the BJP high command forget Jinnah, Nehru and Partition in the twenty first century? And even if a few of them do not, why can't the usual BJPwallahs (or rather Sangh originated ones) digest it sportingly? Many right-wing nationalists blame Gandhian and Nehruvian ways for India's current plight, so why can't they take negative remarks about Sardar and Bose as well in the same stride?

I've myself been praising Bose and Sardar more often in the recent years, but I find nothing unusual if somebody contradicted about them. What Jashwant Singh has penned down is a piece of academic work. You should either ignore it or agree to disagree with his take on partition after going through his text, not before that. Both his sacking and banning of his book in Gujarat were unnecessary moves. I found myself in disagreement from Modi, as a BJP supporter, after a very long time.

Another related mystery is, why Arun Shourie and Yashwant Sinha have not been heard seriously by those in top hierarchy? It is not hidden that most BJP sympathizers would like their party to function in a more democratic and transparent manner. So why can't they have CHINTAN BAITHAKs to decide who lost the 2009 battle for the BJP and decide to have a democratic change of guard?

Thinking about the hidden sarcasm now, should BJP be called Bharatiy Jinnah Party now? Congress sympathizers have taken such digs for long now. Is this the right time for the BJP sympathizers to laugh as well? :-)

Gujarat's affidavit ploy pathetic, says Chidambaram...(read more)

Mr Chidambaram, You have spoken sense in a way. But, let us go back a quarter century ago when you were part of Rajiv Gandhi's ministry in Delhi, and once happened to visit Ahmedabad (my home-town) alongside Rajiv after a bloody spate of communal flare up. Congress used to rule from Delhi to Gandhinagar in those days, and all riots took place under the aegis of corrupt congress CMs in Gandhinagar, who were often accused of pampering the mafia elements of Muslim community in Gujarat. BJP et all used to be confined in KHADIYAA locality in Ahmedabad, where Ashok Bhatt would be their lone noticeable face.

During your visit sir, Muslims from Jamalpur area had complained of Police atrocities, particularly about a youth that was thrown off his room's balcony during a raid, and Rajiv Gandhi was visiting him in the hospital. The media later famously quoted Rajiv of having told Muslims in his typical Hindi, "Honslaa Rakkho" (have faith, hope and patience)...it became a major butt of joke in the Muslim circles. When confronted sir, your good-self asked the Muslims, "why complain of police excesses now? Why did you vote in office a bootlegger from five constituencies of Ahmedabad Municipality?" This was an astonishing statement by a central minister from a party that always sings rhymes of minority welfare. Let me remind for the readers' sake, that Abdul Latif, a hardcore mafia criminal from Dariyaapur, Ahmedabad had been chosen from five Muslim dominated wards, including Jamalpur, a little while earlier. Latif was still lodged in Sabaramati Jail for major charges including that of assassinating a Police Inspector, when all this happened.

Later Shankar Singh Vaghela who ran a minority government with the support of Congress, after breaking away from the BJP, got Latif fixed in a fake encounter. Everybody from the rightists, centrists, leftists and intelligentsia to working class knew it was a bloody fake encounter, in which Police and the ruling class had gotten rid of the demon they had created themselves. Nobody shed any tear for Latif or talked about his constitutional rights apart from his own family members, who were history-sheeters themselves, incidentally. No high level enquirers, and court interventions would take place in such cases, in those days.

Now the question: How did your views about how policing and administrative ways should be, changed in the last 25 years? All the administrative mismanagement that you allege the Gujarat Government of now, were planted by Congress' rule since 1947. The only difference is, the lower rung of BJP leadership (rather the constituents of hard-line Hindutva, including the VHP) and administrative machinery in various BJP rules states have taken some your of your unethical practices to newer heights in a bloody bold fashion. They are not used to fake innocence sitting under Gandhiji's portrait, while indulging in all sorts of communal pampering, nepotism and corrupt practices like your part has done since 1947. If they walk through communal alleys, they do so in broad daylight, unlike your honey laced minority appeasement. The only difference is that of the faith being pampered and its degree, and not the basic communal character between you and them. Therefor, it is hard to digest the sense you speak now, Mr Chidambaram.

Just read the news of a stampede in a Delhi public school where five innocent kids lost their lives and many others were injured, some seriously. It reminded me of the following somewhat off-topic incident, which fills the bill in the larger context anyway.

I had once gone to Akashvani studio, Ahmedabad, to have a recording accomplished. The whole set up seemed to have been built nicely with a lot of state resources spent behind it. But as soon as the recording started, some people talking outside caught my attention. The sound engineer would ask me to continue though, saying that won't be audible in the recorded track. But, what about the person being recorded? How could he/ she focus on what he was working at? Somehow we finished the program. And when it was aired a few days later, I could hardly listen to my own voice with the clarity I had expected, leave alone the crowd outside. This is how government owned institutions and their employees seem to take the responsibilities bestowed upon them.

The Akashvani incident was pardonable, but it hurts more when you see hapless kids being made to pay for the governmental apathy.

I quote the following Orkut message that I wrote on an RSS (Rashtriy Svayamsevak Sangh) community to kich start a Belivers Vs Non-Believers debate in this forum. The Orkut message was posted in response to a thread that asked if the non-believers of God were allowed in the RSS or not.

============

Never thought about this aspect before. It has been a long time since I last went to any temple, or bowed down to any idol. Never felt the neccecity of doing so after having been through an intense phase of meditaiton a few years ago. Osho's discourses were the triggger at that time. But, that made me more believing than ever before. I became more Hinduism oriented than ever before. I started admiring Meera, Budhdha, Krishna and the whole idea of being part of this land and its cultura in a way, that I could have never though about. I do not go to temeples anymore, but my spiritual journey continues. I never feel odd about living in a mass that regularly visits temples. I bow down to their show of faith towards god instead. For me this is more striking, the colorful festivals, the excitement of being part of that particular aspect of Hinduism...I see Krishna, Rama and Mahadeva in them. When needed I go through the rituals for their sake, and do so more deeply than the priest chanting mantras next to me. And there is something very spiritual and Hindu about this personal experinece.

In fact, it was this Hindu flexibility, that made me start calling myself a Gujarati, eventhough I'm a born UP-iet, who has lived in Gujarat for over three and half decdes. Accepted many other UTTAR PRADESHIs won't go through this transformation, but I did and duly give credit for that to the socio-spiritaul ethos of this encinet land.

Then again, would atheist not have anything to believe in? I think, aetheism itself is a strong belief of its own nature. As famously suggested by Osho Rajneesh in one of his public discourses, the communists too had a trinity of their own, the trinity of Marx, Lenin and Mao-tes tung.

Whether you "believed" in GOD or NO GOD, "the belief" would always be there to provide you guidence. Whether you like or not, you would always be a believer. But, the problem arises when people start building boundaries around beliefs and enforcing that onto others - the crux of all religious, social, political and cultural discords on earth. "The notion of being" has more significance in this case. How could anybody, even aetheists, deny that. And the moment you realize about this sense, the force driving you, your life changes. If you began meditating around this awareness, there is a possibility you would end up being a stronger, more indepth believer than all sundry around you. In that context, perhaps the so-called non-beleiver has a potential of growing into a stronger EESHWAR BHAKT, at least at a later date, than all his believing critics.

The remarkable point about Hinduism is the level of tolerace shown by it towards other ethos. You can be part of Hinduism notwithstanding whether you believed in MOORTI-POOJAA or NIRAAKAR ROOP. Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism were bron due to this inherent tolerance. MK Gandhi's SATYA KE PRAYOG and non-violent freedom struggle could never have taken place in a place like Afghanistan, Osho Rajnessh would have been stonned to death among Talibanis. Think of Kabeer, Meera and to more recent Raja Ram Mohan Roy, and you would know, Hinduism had awlays had this tendency of accepting newer ideas, rebelions from within, and was amazingly open to reforms.

RSS is no different in that context, one thinks. If you could share a common view about this land and its people, that should be suffice. However, not being a Svayamsevak myself, I'd let others decide about this....couldn't stop from ranting though, due to the scope of a debate about believers vs non-believers.

It was after the intermission at the theater, and Mulla Nasruddin and his wife were returning to their seats. "Did I step on your feet as I went out?" the Mulla asked a man at the end of the row. "You certainly did," said the man awaiting an apology.
Mulla Nasruddin turned to his wife, "it's all right, darling," he said. "This is our Row."

============

Mulla Nasrudin who was reeling drunk was getting into his automobile when a policeman came up and asked
"You're not going to drive that car, are you?"
"CERTAINLY I AM GOING TO DRIVE," said Nasrudin. "ANYBODY CAN SEE I AM IN NO
CONDITION TO WALK."

=============

"What was the argument between you and your father-in-law, Nasrudin?" asked a friend. "I didn’t mind, when he wore my hat, coat, shoes and suit, BUT WHEN HE SAT DOWN AT THE DINNER TABLE AND LAUGHED AT ME WITH MY OWN TEETH – THAT WAS TOO MUCH," said Mulla Nasrudin.

==============

"Officer you'd better lock me up," he said. "I just hit my wife on the head with a beer bottle."
"Did you kill her:" asked the officer.
"Don’t think so," said Nasruddin. "that's why i want you to lock me up."

=============

Mulla Nasrudin trying to pull his car out of a parking space banged into the car ahead. Then he backed into the car behind. Finally, after pulling into the street, he hit a beer truck. When the police arrived, the patrolman said, "Let's see your licence, Sir." "Don't be silly," said Nasrudin. "who do you think would give me a licence?"

============

During a religious meeting an attractive young widow leaned too far over the balcony and fell, but her dress caught on a chandelier and held her impended in mid-air. The preacher, of course, immediately noticed the woman's predicament and called out to his congregation:
"The first person who looks up there is in danger of being punished with blindness."
Mulla Nasrudin, who was in the congregation whispered to the man next to him, "I Think I will Risk one Eye".

:)
